Terrie S. Rouse assumed the job of Chief Executive Officer for Visitor Services for the Capitol Visitor Center on September 17, 2007.    

Ms. Rouse most recently served as Executive Vice President/Director of Museums for Kansas City’s (Mo.) 900,000 square foot Union Station, a historic landmark.  During her tenure, she managed two museum directors which encompass Science City, the Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall, The City Extreme Screen, Planetarium, exhibitions within Union Station, as well as its permanent collections.  She also provides consultant services to a number of cultural, non-profit organizations across the United States.  Ms. Rouse has provided professional services on a joint project between the City of Philadelphia, the National Park Service, and Independence National Historic Park (The President’s House: Freedom and Slavery in Making a New Nation), and worked with the City of Charleston on the development of the International African American Museum. 

Prior to her work in Kansas City, Ms. Rouse served as Executive Director of the Atlanta Ballet; was President and CEO of the African American Museum in Philadelphia; Director of the New York Transit Museum, and worked as Executive Director at the Children’s Museum of Maine. 

Ms. Rouse, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies from Trinity College, a Masters of Professional Studies from Cornell University, and a Master of Arts degree in African History from Columbia University.  Over the years, she has also been an educator, serving as an adjunct professor or instructor at a number of universities across the country, including New York University, Columbia University, and Cornell University. 

In addition, she has served on a number of professional associations and boards, has published extensively in many academic and art publications, and has conducted presentations and lectures on subjects ranging from cultural tourism to the management of art collections.
