Cooling Towers to be Removed at Capitol Power Plant

March 5, 2012

Cooling Towers Removal

Beginning March 5, 2012, the Architect of the Capitol will remove the east cooling towers at the Capitol Power Plant. These cooling towers are no longer in use as a result of the expansion of the West Refrigeration Plant.

On-site preparation work was recently completed. Today, demolition equipment will be brought on-site to facilitate the cooling towers’ removal.  Demolition activities are scheduled to be completed by May 2012.

Work will occur Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., in compliance with District of Columbia regulations. The demolition work is not expected to create excessive dust however; the area will be sprayed with water during demolition activities, if necessary. There will be no impacts to traffic or parking in the area.
