By the end of June 2004, work continued on and below the roof deck in the western half of the site, while formwork erection and concrete placements continued in the eastern half. Progress on the structure of the Congressional Auditorium is visible (lower center), including the erection of steel for the roof and mezzanine level. Within the East Front Extension, crews continued to erect structural steel and carry on demolition activities to clear the way for elevator shafts, escalators, stairwells and new mechanical systems. The truck tunnel is visible in the far right of the photograph, and was complete enough by this time to allow the placement of a concrete slab along both sides of Constitution Avenue.
