East Capitol Street between First and Second Streets officially opened to traffic at 11:00 AM the morning of June 16, 2006. Two traffic lanes (one in each direction), two parking lanes and two bike paths have been re-established. The sidewalk along the south side of the street (side of the Library of Congress Jefferson Building) is also available to pedestrians and persons with disabilities.
East Capitol Street had been closed early in 2005 to allow CVC contractors to build a new utility tunnel to carry steam and chilled water to the CVC.
