Weekly Construction Summary

This Week - Ongoing Work - 9/02/02 through 9/06/02

East Front Plaza Work (Inside the Construction Fence)

  • Earth-moving activities will continue at several locations across the Plaza. Significant excavation has been completed between the Center Steps and the Senate Steps.
  • Installation of noise reduction window units over all East Front windows has been completed.

House Side (Outside the Construction Fence)

  • The drive lanes at the South Barricade entrance have been shifted to their permanent configuration and are both open to vehicular traffic. The sidewalks on both sides of the entrance are accessible. Work continues on the center portion of the entrance between the barricades with the construction of formwork for the central planter.
  • South Barricade Entrance - CVC utility work is complete along Southeast Drive.
  • Perimeter security work and related paving activities continue along Southeast Drive. Vehicular access may be available the beginning of next week for parking and for exiting at the end of Southeast Drive at First Street SE and Independence Avenue.
  • Southwest lawn - Utility work is complete near the Magnolia tree grove in the southwest lawn adjacent to the Capitol Building.
  • The South Door, the House Steps and the House Carriageway Door remain accessible to pedestrians throughout construction.

Senate Side (Outside the Construction Fence)

  • Utility work along the west side of the North Barricade Entrance has been completed.
  • The North Door, the Senate Steps and the Senate Carriageway Door remain accessible to pedestrians throughout construction.
  • Vehicle access through the Senate Carriageway will continue.
  • Northwest Lawn - Utility work is complete in the lawn adjacent to the Capitol Building just north of the lower West Front steps.

Tree Maintenance

Tree monitoring activities continue.

Next Week - Anticipated Work - 9/09/02 through 9/13/02

East Front Plaza Work (Inside the Construction Fence)

  • Site excavation will continue in locations throughout the East Plaza.

House Side (Outside the Construction Fence)

  • Southeast Drive is expected to be accessible for vehicle parking and passage on Monday, September 9. Vehicles will exit at the end of Southeast Drive at the corner of First Street SE and Independence Avenue.

Senate Side (Outside the Construction Fence)

  • A portion of the sidewalk along Northeast Drive will be paved and the sidewalk will become fully accessible to pedestrian traffic. Perimeter security work is complete along the Drive.

Tree Maintenance

Tree monitoring activities will continue.
