Temporary Rotunda Closure

2:30 p.m. - The Capitol Rotunda is temporarily closed and will be reopened as soon as possible. The closure is out of an abundance of caution to allow inspections to the protective canopy in the Rotunda after a small piece of protective padding between the scaffold and Rotunda walls dislodged. AOC Monitoring Impact of HIgh Winds on Power at Capitol

On Wednesday, March 12, high winds in the Washington, D.C. area caused electrical power surges that impacted power supply to the U.S. Capitol. Architect of the Capitol (AOC) staff responded to Capitol outage reports at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening and made repairs by 9 p.m. AOC staff will continue to monitor the situation throughout the night.
