Fire Protection System Upgrade in Senate Subway Tunnel

Sprinkler installation in the Senate Office Building Subway Tunnel

Work is underway to provide the United States Senate Subway Tunnel with automatic fire sprinkler protection through the installation of 6,800 linear feet of sprinkler piping and 258 sprinkler heads between all Senate Subway stations.

All construction activities are being conducted at night when the Senate is not in session to limit the downtime of the subway system and provide uninterrupted service to the United States Senate throughout the life of the project.

This effort is an important life safety upgrade and brings the Architect of the Capitol closer to attaining its goal of full-building sprinkler coverage for all Senate Office Buildings [1].
