This event has already occurred — House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will dedicate a statue of the late Rosa L. Parks [1] at a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, February 27 in National Statuary Hall [2] of the United States Capitol.
On December 1, 2005, President George W. Bush signed into law H.R. 4145, legislation directing Congress to obtain a statue of Rosa Parks and provide for its placement in the United States Capitol. This will be the first statue of an African-American woman to be placed in the Capitol.
Due to this event there will be no tours of the U.S. Capitol that day until 2 p.m. Prior to 2 p.m., the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center will be available for official business, House and Senate Gallery pass holders, and those who have been invited to attend the event.
