The New Blue Concert at the U.S. Botanic Garden

This event has already occurred — Come to the U.S. Botanic Garden and hear The New Blue, Yale's oldest all-female a cappella group! The New Blue was founded the first year that Yale admitted undergraduate women and has prided itself on an eclectic repertoire and innovative musical spirit ever since. The group is visiting the DC area this week as part of its spring East Coast tour. Join them for a rousing lunchtime set in the lushness of the Conservatory's Garden Court. Please note: Limited seating will be available.

John Adams Building Monumental Door Replacement

AOC is replacing the original, historic bronze doors of the Library of Congress John Adams Building to be compliant with fire, security and ADA codes. The new door design incorporates cast glass panels mounted within a bronze framework that reference the artistic heritage of the original doors by recreating the original, historic bronze reliefs in kiln-cast glass. The kiln-formed sculptural glass was made from molds taken off the original door sculptures.

Capitol Reflecting Pool Spring Cleaning

Starting March 17, 2013 the Capitol Reflecting Pool located at the West Front of the Capitol (east end of the National Mall) will be drained and cleaned as part of regular maintenance performed by the AOC. The work is anticipated to take approximately one week. The Reflecting Pool will be refilled when completed.

On the fourth floor of the Rayburn House Office Building there is a five-foot wide ledge that surrounds the majority of the building. This ledge is covered with a copper flashing and acts as a gutter that helps protect the building from the elements. The caulking in the joints that run the length of the flashing is failing, which allows water to get behind the stone and causes the steel to rust and expand, thus damaging the stones. Craftsmen are currently caulking the joints to repair the areas, which are hard to access and require extensive training in fall...
