Generator Replacement at the Library of Congress John Adams Building

Work is underway at the northwest corner of the Library of Congress John Adams Building to replace the existing emergency generator with one that provides more than twice the power.

The existing emergency generator had reached the end of its serviceable life and lacks adequate capacity to support future needs of the John Adams Building.

To minimize noise impacts on the community work will take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The photography of Jackie Bailey Labovitz celebrates the short-lived flowers of perennial native plants that bloom beneath the forest canopy. During a brief window of opportunity, they arise from the ground after it thaws and bloom, taking advantage of the sunlight beaming through the leafless trees. Takis Tzamaras

Takis Tzamaras
Acting Superintendent, Senate Office Buildings

Takis Tzamaras received his Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1991. Since then, he has earned his Professional Registration as a Fire Protection Engineer with the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Prior to joining the Architect of the Capitol, Takis served as Project Manager for a large Architectural/Engineering design firm and for a nationwide Building Code/Fire Protection consulting firm. He has provided his expertise for a wide array of projects and clients that included the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, U.S. Department of State, Federal Aviation Administration, U.S Department of Justice, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the World Trade Center in Barcelona, Spain.

In 2002, Takis joined the Architect of the Capitol as the Fire Protection Engineer responsible for the fire and life safety program in the Senate Office Buildings. In September 2004, Takis became the Assistant Superintendent responsible for the oversight of design and construction projects, worker safety, and computer-aided facilities management in the Senate Buildings. In January 2007, Takis became the Deputy Superintendent of the Senate Superintendent's Office, he was named acting superintendent in January 2013.

Takis believes that quality management is based on the principles of Client Focus, Involvement of People, and Strong Leadership. He has derived these principles from his experiences and uses them as a framework to guide the organization towards improved performance.

 

Visitor Hour Changes for Inauguration

Due to preparations for the 57th Presidential Inauguration, the Capitol Visitor Center will be closed on Saturday, January 19, and it will also be closed Monday, January 21 for the Inauguration itself. Tours of the U.S. Capitol will be suspended on both days.

The U.S. Botanic Garden will also be closed on Inauguration Day, Monday, January 21.
