Cannon House Office Building Life-Safety Improvements

Cannon House Office Building

AOC is currently working to install fire doors in a number of locations throughout the Cannon House Office Building. This work will enhance the safety for occupants in the in the Cannon Building by improving evacuation time by enabling occupants to exit to an adjacent vertical, fire-rated stair enclosure in either direction within the building.
 
The work will affect corners of the building and will occur only on weekends, it will continue until Spring 2014.
 
The Cannon House Office Building is the oldest Congressional office building outside of the U.S. Capitol Building. When completed in 1908, the building contained many building facilities modern for their time, including forced-air ventilation systems, steam heat, individual lavatories with hot and cold running water and ice water, telephones and electricity.
