Architect of the Capitol Stephen T. Ayers joined Representative French Hill, Harriet Mayor Fulbright and Father Patrick J. Conroy to dedicate a tree in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Fulbright Program.

"This tree celebrates a unique program, established by the now-late J. William Fulbright, to foster growth and understanding between students around the world. I am pleased to participate in today's ceremony," said Ayers.

Several trees on the Capitol grounds serve as living memorials. The Fulbright tree, an American Elm, is located on the Capitol campus near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Constitution Avenue. The Architect of the Capitol (AOC) cares for the historic and picturesque grounds surrounding the U.S. Capitol Building. The grounds were designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in 1874. More than 140 years later, the AOC continues to follow his plan for creating an urban oasis in the nation's capital.
