J. Brett Blanton has been sworn in as the 12th Architect of the Capitol. He was nominated by President Donald J. Trump on December 9, 2019. Blanton most recently served as the Deputy Vice President for Engineering at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

The 2019 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree was chosen from the Carson National Forest and is sponsored by the New Mexico Congressional Delegation led by U.S. Senator Tom Udall. Lighting Ceremony will take place December 4, 2019, on the West Front Lawn.
