Beth Plemmons, Chief Executive Officer for Visitor Services at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, leads an expert team of more than 200 employees whose mission it is to "inform, involve and inspire" each of the more than 2 million guests who visit the United States Capitol every year.

As CEO, Ms. Plemmons is responsible for maintaining a high quality visitor experience through delivery of world-class service standards, ensuring operational readiness, and managing maximum visitor flow in a safe and secure environment. She provides leadership in multiple areas including visitor services, exhibits and education, special events, communications and marketing, information technology, training, personnel management, and gift shops, restaurant and catering operations.

Ms. Plemmons led the development and now the implementation of the Capitol Visitor Center’s Strategic and Operations Plan. She also ensures the Capitol Visitor Center responds to legislative changes or directives and manages the development of policy. Ms. Plemmons exercises discretionary authority to approve the allocation and distribution of funds while striving to ensure that service to both Congress and the visiting public is never compromised.

Ms. Plemmons joined the Capitol Visitor Center in September 2008 as Director of Visitor Services and developed and implemented the visitor-related procedures and operations, which includes the delivery of 40,000 Capitol tours each year. She then served as Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Visitor Services from 2010 to 2011, when she was named Chief Executive Officer, overseeing all aspects of Capitol Visitor Center operations.

A dynamic business leader with more than 25 years in the hospitality industry, Beth successfully managed people, processes and projects for historic tourist destinations in the Mid-Atlantic region. Prior to joining the Architect of the Capitol, she served as Associate Director for Guest Services at George Washington’s Historic Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens where she supervised guest services operations, ticketing and group sales. She also spent 17 years at the 8,000-acre Biltmore Estate, the former home of George Vanderbilt, in Asheville, North Carolina. She began her tenure as Candlelight Reservations Supervisor and ended her service as Director of Ticketing and Reservations while overseeing a substantial increase in visitation and revenue.

Beth received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management and minored in Business Administration. She also studied at the HÔTELCONSULT in LeBouveret, Switzerland.
