As the Chief Security Officer, Ms. Valerie Hasberry leads the Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO) which includes the Capitol Police Buildings, Grounds and Security jurisdiction. OCSO is responsible for the maintenance, care and operation of the buildings, grounds and physical security enhancements of the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) and related campuswide infrastructure. OCSO also manages the Architect of the Capitol’s (AOC) internal security programs including personnel suitability and badging, continuity of operations and resiliency programs, and the emergency management program and coordinates interagency emergency preparedness for the AOC.
Prior to joining the AOC, Ms. Hasberry served in the United States Air Force as a Civil Engineer Officer. Her final Air Force assignment was as Chief, Civil Engineer Readiness Division and the Civil Engineer Officer Career Field Manager at Headquarters U.S. Air Force where she was responsible for leading the development of civil engineer readiness, emergency services, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense doctrine, policy, and guidance.
Over the course of her military career, Ms. Hasberry held a variety of positions at installation, major command, Air Staff and Joint Staff levels including Deputy Joint Base Commander and Commander, 627th Air Base Group at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, command of a Civil Engineer Squadron; Military Construction Program Manager; Chief, Operations Flight; Chief, Planning and Basing Branch; and Chief, Capabilities Integration Branch on the Joint Staff.
Ms. Hasberry graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. She earned her commission through the Reserve Officers Training Corp program and entered active duty in June 1989. Ms. Hasberry holds a Master of Arts in Administration from Webster University, a Master of Military Studies from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and a Master of Strategic Studies from Army War College.
