As the Director of Utilities and Power Plant Operations, Mr. Christopher Potter is responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and capital improvement program of the U.S. Capitol Power Plant and its utility distribution system. In addition, he oversees the utility budgeting for all of the facilities under the Architect of the Capitol's (AOC) care.

Before being promoted to his current position in 2012, Mr. Potter had served as the Deputy Director of Utilities and Power Plant Operations since beginning his career with the AOC in 2005. His numerous accomplishments in this position included successfully completing and commissioning a major refrigeration plant expansion project, installing modern digital control systems and several other energy conservation projects that resulted in reduced energy consumption, reduced utility costs and increased plant reliability. Mr. Potter also led the development of a long-term strategic energy plan for the U.S. Capitol Power Plant and played a key role in completing the five-year Utility Tunnel Improvement Program.

Prior to his employment with the AOC, Mr. Potter worked for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), which is where he began his engineering career in 1993 as a cooperative education engineering student. After graduating from college, he continued his career with GSA as a project engineer and was responsible for managing the design and construction of numerous industrial projects. In 1999, Mr. Potter was promoted to senior project manager. In this role, he was responsible for managing all plant critical infrastructure projects including a multi-phased energy savings project to install a cogeneration system and expand the GSA refrigeration plant and distribution system. In 2003, Mr. Potter was promoted to manager of the Maintenance and Engineering Office where he was responsible for all plant maintenance, engineering and construction activities.

Mr. Potter graduated from the University of Maryland in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He also holds a Master of Science degree in engineering management from The Catholic University of America and a Master of Public Administration degree from American University.
