Who We Are

Mark D. Reed, PE, CFM

Superintendent
Capitol Building

As the Superintendent for the Capitol Building, Mr. Mark Reed is responsible for the day-to-day structural, mechanical and domestic care of the U.S. Capitol Building and the Capitol Visitor Center.

Mr. Reed comes to the Capitol Building from the House Office Buildings, where he served as the Deputy Superintendent from 2012 to 2016 and the Assistant Superintendent from 2007 to 2012. Mr. Reed began his employment with the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) in 2004 as a fire protection engineer.

Prior to joining the AOC, Mr. Reed served as a consulting engineer for a national fire protection and building code consulting firm and worked on the design and renovation of multiple, mixed-use construction projects.

Mr. Reed received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell in 1990 and earned his Master of Science degree in fire protection engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1997. He is also registered as a Professional Engineer in Fire Protection in California.
