Conservation of the Jefferson Building's Court of Neptune Fountain

Status: Completed

The Architect of the Capitol conserved the bronze sculptures of the Thomas Jefferson Building's Court of Neptune Fountain with a thorough cleaning to remove stains and mineral buildup caused by weathering and fountain water. Cleaning was followed by waxing to preserve the completed bronze luster. The AOC also cleaned the masonry, repairing and repainting the basin to restore the overall visual composition of the fountain.

John Adams Building Monumental Door

Status: Completed

Building: U.S. Library of Congress

AOC is replacing the original, historic bronze doors of the Library of Congress John Adams Building to be compliant with fire, security and ADA codes. The new door design incorporates cast glass panels mounted within a bronze framework that reference the artistic heritage of the original doors by recreating the original, historic bronze reliefs in kiln-cast glass. The kiln-formed sculptural glass was made from molds taken off the original door sculptures.
