Yesterday, Senator Alex Padilla, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Senator Adam Schiff and other distinguished guests gathered on the U.S. Capitol Grounds to dedicate a tree honoring former Senator Dianne Feinstein, the longest serving U.S. senator from California and the longest-tenured female senator in history.

"We are honored to commemorate Senator Feinstein's life and legacy by dedicating a willow oak, known for its unique foliage, here on the Capitol Grounds," said Thomas E. Austin, Architect of the Capitol. "The willow oak is a long-lived, resilient tree — the perfect species to represent Senator Feinstein’s many years of service."

Several trees on the U.S. Capitol Grounds serve as living memorials. The Feinstein tree is located northwest of the U.S. Capitol near the Summerhouse.

The Architect of the Capitol (AOC) cares for the historic and picturesque areas surrounding the U.S. Capitol. The U.S. Capitol Grounds were designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in 1874, and the AOC continues to follow his plan for creating an urban oasis in the nation's capital.
