The U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG) Foliage Plant Program provides plants for the interior hallways of the Capitol, House and Senate Office Buildings and in the offices of Senators and Senate Committees. Plants for Senator and Senate Committee offices may be ordered, replaced or repotted upon request by the office staff.
Small plants are suitable for a desk top or mantle; medium plants are appropriate for a shelf or windowsill; large plants require space on a table or stand. The USBG staff will work with you to determine a suitable plant for your work environment. Our plant inventory varies by season and demand. Substitutes will be offered if a plant you request is not available.
Services
The services provided include replacing dead, moribund, diseased, or overgrown plants; repotting root-bound plants; and inspecting plants for disease, insect, or other horticultural problems. It is very helpful if the plants to be picked up for service are clearly labeled.
Please note that USBG services do not include repotting or treating plants that originate from other sources, i.e., plants that are not from the USBG foliage program. Also, the USBG cannot be responsible for decorative containers. If you wish to use decorative containers, they must be easily removed and retained in your office while your plants are being serviced.
To obtain foliage plants or services for your office, here is what you need to know:
- A Senator, Senate Committee, or Joint Committee office may receive or replace up to six plants in each calendar year.
- Orders will be logged and filled in the order we receive them.
- Plants or services may be ordered through the online request form, email [email protected], or call 202.226.4786. Please leave a message with your office number, contact name and phone number if the assistant is temporarily away from the telephone.
