For the first time, the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) brings the holiday magic of the West Front to you via 360-degree, interactive panoramas. Spin, zoom and explore every sparkle and detail — from the many lights to the various ornaments tucked between the branches. It’s an immersive experience that brings the People's Tree to life from every angle.

This year's tree, a 53-foot red fir from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada, can be viewed online in both a day setting and a night setting, complete with colorful lights. A small selection of the handmade ornaments from the people of Nevada has also been digitized for 360-degree viewing.

The tradition of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, known as the People's Tree, began in 1964 when a live Christmas tree was planted on the Capitol lawn in Washington, D.C. Six years later, in 1970, the AOC asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USFS) to provide a Christmas tree from a national forest. Since then, every year, a different national forest provides the Capitol Christmas Tree and engages in a public campaign to create meaningful connections and to celebrate our national forests.
