William M. Weidemeyer
As the Superintendent of House Office Buildings, Mr. William Morton Weidemeyer is responsible for the operation, maintenance and preservation of the Cannon, Ford, Longworth, O'Neill and Rayburn Buildings; underground garages, annexes and subways. His jurisdiction oversees daily domestic care, repairs and maintenance for these facilities; performs client services, preventive maintenance, building inspector surveys, compliance issues abatement, energy savings and recycling initiatives, and safety inspections; and also manages the biennial office move process for House members.
Since joining the Architect of the Capitol in 2000, Mr. Weidemeyer has held several positions. He was first hired as an Assistant Superintendent in the House Office Buildings. In 2001, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Director of Engineering where he was responsible for overseeing the engineering design program as well as several support shops. In 2004, Mr. Weidemeyer was charged with establishing a "pilot" Project Management organization which was responsible for the cradle-to-grave oversight of facility-related projects. In 2005, Mr. Weidemeyer was promoted to the position of Director for the organization. In 2007, he became the Director of Design Services where he was responsible for the oversight of the architectural and engineering design program as well as several support shops. In 2008, Mr. Weidemeyer was appointed to his current position in the House Office Buildings.
Mr. Weidemeyer began his federal career in 1983 as a project engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head, Maryland. In 1989, he was promoted to the position of Branch Manager in the Facilities Acquisition Division where he was responsible for overseeing a segment of the planning and design program for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, and in 1992 became the Deputy Director for the same organization. In 1996, Mr. Weidemeyer was appointed Branch Manager for the Civil/Structural Design Branch where he was responsible for the development and review of facility design projects for the Naval Surface Warfare Center. In 1997, he became the Acting Director for the same organization.
Mr. Weidemeyer graduated from the University of Maryland in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil/structural engineering. In 1989, he obtained a Master of Science degree in engineering administration from The George Washington University.
Throughout his career, Mr. Weidemeyer has received numerous outstanding performance awards and recognition including the Architect of the Capitol Commendation Award in 2005. He has also been assigned a variety of collateral duties during his career. In 1996, he was appointed as the Leader of the Facilities Acquisition Working Group for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, which was chartered to improve the timeliness and quality of contracted construction. In 2001, Mr. Weidemeyer was appointed by the Architect of the Capitol as a member of the Legislative Branch Emergency Preparedness Task Force. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland.
